Please tell us about your current release:
Jewel of the East is the 8th installment in my award-winning Devil DeVere erotic historical romance series. Although the books all connect, I wrote this to read well as a standalone. The hero is Simon “Sin” Singleton also the hero of my comedy novella, The Trouble with Sin (click for free download).
My heroine is a Turkish courtesan named Salime who was essential in bringing Diana and DeVere together in The Devil’s Match. Although Salime believed herself in love with Lord DeVere, she put his happiness before her own and helped her rival to win him.
JEWEL OF THE EAST (The Devil DeVere #5) by Victoria Vane
Having once lived his life only for larks, laughter, and ladies of easy virtue, Captain Simon Singleton has returned from the war with the colonies a shambles of a man. Now free from six years of captivity, he’s still fettered by irrational fears that confine him to a life of seclusion.
Once the crowning jewel of the most lavish brothel in London, the exotic Salime finds her reputation and livelihood destroyed by a bitter rival. With a closely guarded secret stripped away, Salime fears no man will ever desire her again. Seeking aid from one who once saved her life, Salime accepts a proposition to repay her debt by becoming a companion to his war-scarred friend.
Circumstance brings these two damaged souls together; but fate ignites a love story worthy of the Arabian Nights.
How did you come up with the idea for your book?
As mentioned earlier, Salime was instrumental in bringing Diana and Devere together. Given her act of self-sacrifice, I felt she more than deserved her own happy ending. J
Can you tell us about the journey that led you to write your book?
The Devil DeVere series began as a single novella, an over-the –top romantic comedy called
A Wild Nights’ Bride that was loosely inspired by the Hangover movie. The character of Ludovic “the Devil” DeVere was originally intended to be just a rakish side-kick but his personality was so powerful that he “spawned ” an entire series. To date, the Devil DeVere has received 19 reviewer awards and nominations to include Library Journal Best E-Book Romance of 2012, and I am not finished with it yet!
What was the hardest part of writing your book?
This book is very unique in that I incorporated a number of poems and stories into it. It also includes two fairytales that I made up! I also struggle in trying to make every love scene unique to the particular story I am writing.
What would you say in your most interesting writing quirk?
I’m a true blue history geek! Almost everything I write (erotic romances included) has elements of real history that I always endeavor to share with the readers.
Do you have plans for any subsequent books?
Absolutely! This series is far from finished. I hope to write Ned and Annalee’s story later this year (Ned’s Folly) and have plans for two more books next year (Devil by Another Name and Devil in Diamonds) as well as a spin-off series featuring the devil’s offspring!
Please tell us your latest news
Other than releasing Jewel of the East (click for excerpt), I am deep into a four book hot contemporary cowboy series for Sourcebooks that is slated for release late 2014 or early 2015. I am also doing research on a romantic historical adventure series that I have had on hold for two years. I’m hoping the time has finally come to write it.
Do you have any specific that you want to say to your readers?
If you read my books, you should expect the unexpected!
